The Story
About Trois
There's a wallet in most people's pockets that's been there too long - worn thin, overstuffed, kept because replacing it never quite made the list. We spent three years looking for something worth switching to. Nothing was right. Too thick, too branded, or built to last eighteen months and no longer. Eventually it made more sense to build it ourselves.
In 2025, we built it: a slim bifold in full-grain Italian pebbled leather. No logo on the outside. Designed in New York, for New York. The kind of thing you buy once and stop thinking about.
The Name
Trois is French for three. We named it after ourselves - two brothers and a partner who grew up in Mauritius, a French-speaking island in the Indian Ocean. The word traveled with her.
The Leather
The leather comes from Italy. Full-grain pebbled cowhide - the top of the hide, untouched, with its natural texture intact rather than sanded down to uniformity.
Most leather goods are made from the layers beneath. Full-grain uses what's on top, which means it carries the original surface of the animal - slightly irregular, slightly alive. It darkens at the edges over time, softens where your hands meet it, and takes on the shape of what it holds.
New York
New York has a way of cutting things down to what they need to be. No excess, no apology, nothing kept for decoration.
Trois was designed here. The proportions, the restraint, the decision to leave the outside clean - that comes from living in a place that has no patience for things that don't earn their keep. We didn't set out to make a luxury object. We set out to make the right wallet. It turned out those are the same thing.
Why 100
Every batch is 100 wallets. At that number, we know each one. We can catch a hide that didn't take the dye evenly, a stitch that isn't tight enough, a color that came out half a shade off. At a thousand we can't.
When a batch sells out, we make another. Every wallet still goes through the same hands. The number stays low because the standards stay high.
